Principal Engineer - Database Engineering (Query Optimization)

Responsibilities:

Lead the design, development, and maintenance of a highly distributed and high-performing database system, focusing on the Query Optimizer.
Engage in technical, design, and product discussions within the team, providing leadership and expertise.
Consistently deliver complex projects while maintaining high-quality standards.
Mentor and guide junior engineers within the team to foster their growth and development.
Author engaging blog posts, technical articles/papers, and present findings at conferences and meetups.
Actively participate in online forums, discussion boards, and provide expert insights to answer customer questions.

Qualifications:

8+ years of software engineering experience.
Solid understanding of query processing internals, database architecture, and distributed systems.
Proficiency in object-oriented programming, SQL semantics, and optimization techniques.
Exceptional problem-solving abilities and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Experience contributing to open-source database projects is highly valued.
PhD or research experience in databases or distributed systems is advantageous.
Demonstrated engagement in the database community through publications, technical presentations, and/or active involvement in related forums or groups.

Bonus Points for Experience in:

Query Optimizer: heuristic-based query rewrites, cost-based optimizations, cardinality estimations, plan stability, interleaved query optimization based on runtime feedback.
Designing and implementing cloud-scale distributed database system internals.
